25 High Street

Sidney was the third generation of his family to be in the butcher's trade.
His grandfather had a shop at 1 Olive Branch Yard (behind 3 St Leonard's Street) and his father at 1 St George's Square where Sidney was brought up.
Sidney was born in 1899 and served as an Engineer in the Royal Flying Corps then the Royal Air Force in World War I. When he was discharged in 1919, he lived with his parents at 7 St Leonard's Street.
Both he and his father were butchers but it's not clear whether they were working for someone else or trading on their own.
His father died in 1935 and not long after that, Sidney took over 25 High Street where he traded until 1960.
Contemporary accounts describe it as rather old fashioned with a stable door. Presumably Sidney retired when George Adams took over. He died at 43 Highlands Way, Stamford in 1982.
