2 All Saints' Street
Many different traders had worked here prior to 1890 when George Conington moved here from no. 22 across the street.
It was ideal for a butchers’ shop with facilities for slaughtering and preparing meat products.
His father had a butchers’ shop in 38 High Street. George died in 1913 and his son Frank took over the business.
Frank died in 1935 and Albert Robert Johnson took over the butcher’s shop which he ran with his two sons, Peter and Sam.
After Peter moved to the other side of the Millstone pub at 11 All Saints' Place and his brother Sam had moved to Bourne, this shop was sold and became a restaurant.
Butchers shops were often taken over by restaurants who could use the other facilities on the site for preparing meals.
