These properties were formerly a barn, stables and outbuildings owned by the Marquess of Exeter.
They were sold and divided by the purchaser Dixon Ludlow in 1878.
He kept the house at no. 10 and sold the rest to Herbert Andrews who secured a mortgage and set up a bakery.
By 1879 it was listed as a baker's shop with outbuildings. Ludlow died in 1911 and his widow sold the property to William Chambers as a shop and bakehouse.
After William Chambers died in 1926, his wife employed Augustus Asker who bought the business soon afterwards.
In 1929 the property was divided again when Asker sold the house and shop to John Francis, the son of Thomas Sheffield, who opened a grocery shop.
John Francis Sheffield had served in Ireland in the Great War, Asker retained the bakery with the loft over in Kings Mill Lane.
In 1955 John Fordham bought the shop and continued the grocery business until 1957 when Roy and Winifred Sidsaff took over and ran the last grocery business until 1972.
