Peregrine Emmitt was the son of a baker in Wisbech.
He had a bakery and confectioners' business here in 1891 which he ran with his son James Clack who died in the Great War.
At 9pm he made the dough and at 6am next day started to bake. The oven was coal fired - the bread nearest to fire was often burnt and so was given to family.
After his son's death he moved to Truesdales almshouse in Scotgate and sold the business to William Henry Foreman.
